Re: Why Faith Isn't a Reliable Pathway to Determine the Truth

I think that about sums it up. Scepticism is always selective but I would hope reason and passion could learn to co-operate. That is not true. Skepticism is not always selective and you would have a difficult time proving such a thing. You may have that impression based on someone you've encountere...

Re: Why Faith Isn't a Reliable Pathway to Determine the Truth

Where you see mysteries I see absurdities. You view this issue re: law of non-contradiction as just some kind of paradox, like Zeno's arrow that you just have to learn how to live with. But it's not. The core idea that God would in any meaningful sense become fully human and yet remain fully God is...

Piffle... https://www.iep.utm.edu/incarnat/#H2 Incarnation In the Bible's fourth gospel, John tells us "the Word [God the Son] became flesh [incarnate] and dwelt among us" (John 1: 14). The central claim of Christianity is that Jesus of Nazareth was none other than God the Son, who while remaining ...

Re: Why Faith Isn't a Reliable Pathway to Determine the Truth

@Moon: Our entire exchange reduces to this—- The Christian: Hosanna! The Word has become flesh in Jesus! The Skeptic: lolwut? Law of Non-Contradiction! The Christian: Hosanna! The Word has become flesh in Jesus! Just not in the same way at the same time.... To be honest Cap I never for a moment tho...

Re: Why Faith Isn't a Reliable Pathway to Determine the Truth

Not the second. A moment is a conventional entity. Points in time like points in space do not necessarily have an actual existence. Ah, I think I understand. So...the time and place of Jesus' birth may not actually exist? You do realize SEG has been saying that till he's blue in the face, don't you...

Re: Why Faith Isn't a Reliable Pathway to Determine the Truth

It is Christian doctrine that at the moment of his birth Jesus was fully human, is it not? It is also Christian doctrine that at the moment of his birth Jesus was fully God. That would seem to indicate that at one particular point in time Jesus was both fully human and fully God. Not the second. A ...

Re: Why Faith Isn't a Reliable Pathway to Determine the Truth

Here's the question: Christian doctrine is that Jesus was fully God and fully human at the same time . Not really. God and man are not subject to time in the same way so you will notfind this kind of claim in the creeds and definitions. We are talking about something atemporal assuming a temporal n...
