Re: Observations and notes regarding On the Historicity of Jesus, by Richard Carrier

So, summarizing thus far, I object to Carrier's book on the following points: 1. Carrier is writing a crowd-funded polemic, disguised as a scholarly work. Not a good start, Og - It's a conspiracy theory! His work is not subject to academic review by his peers, as would be a college-printed textbook...

Re: How do we approach a new proposition?

Deflating when you realize that maybe our exchange wasn't really ever followed by more than a few people. Kind of funny too There's probably more people than you realise that are reading without any commitment. I don't mind it, its soothing for my non-existent soul! I do wish that Og would have ans...

Re: How do we approach a new proposition?

So, this is as good a place as any to wrap up another matter: I have just posted my last bit on Carrier's OHJ book, and I trust that SEG will shortly post his conclusion on Lewis, if he has not already. Based on these, I submit the following survey for the voluntary participation of those who follo...

Re: Be ready always to give ... a reason of the hope that is in you...

Um... Christians don't consider one person or another morally better or worse, as a matter of doctrine. O'Hair, by all accounts, was unpleasant, vile, vulgar, and profane. But it's a pass/fail system, and we all fail. Sharon Tate has no bearing on O'Hair -- it's not a relative thing. It's pass/fail....

Re: C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity

So in calling such a law a natural assumption on the part of humans, Lewis is absolutely correct. Who else says that it is a natural assumption on the part of humans? It wasn't for me or anyone else that I know for that matter. So, let's recap here: Lewis says that we would naturally expect there t...

Re: C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity

You really need to read my conclusions on Carrier. I think I've put the Rank-Raglan comparison to bed with points 28 and 29.

I understand that you've deified Carrier: That's what people do with Rank-Raglan heroes, after all...

Re: Observations and notes regarding On the Historicity of Jesus, by Richard Carrier

I know what you're thinking, or a good many of you. It is indubitably something along the lines of this: "It's all well and good, Og, you writing such a detailed rebuttal and nitpicking all these points, but we're on page 11 already, so, please, for the sake of all that is good and holy, follow the ...

Re: C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity

[We would expect, if we were asked to compose a picture of a solar system knowing nothing about it except heliocentricity, that the planets were of a pattern for size and distance, and there was once actually an attempt to make the planets distances fit into a pattern. It eventually had to be aband...

Re: Observations and notes regarding On the Historicity of Jesus, by Richard Carrier

You must have missed this too; Just like Jesus, John Frum, Tom Navy and dozens of saviour gods, Ned Ludd was supposed to be the founder of the group within a few decades. He wasn't. Guess why? Because no record can be found of him, I suppose you'll say. But absence of evidence is not evidence of ab...
