Re: An evil god?

Not something I made up: John 14:16, 14:26, 15:26, 16:7 John 20:22, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38 (Second Ch. of Acts gives examples) Acts 9:17 Among others. Which don't answer or they contradict this: "no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God". How can you or anyone else read the mind of Go...

Re: An evil god?

I would also like to know from the Christians where is the link from an absolute morality to a divine being - if we presume there is such a thing as an absolute morality. That's never been explained. You seem to think that I am saying, "If there is an absolute morality, then God exists." I stop sho...

Re: An evil god?

Scenario 5: So let us suppose that you say to the child: "It's wrong to hurt cats because it says in the Bible (whatever verse you think fits, because you are the secondary teacher, right?). You must never ever hurt cats." Junior replies, "Why?" And we say... It boils down to the same thing OG. At ...

Re: An evil god?

Both interesting. I think the question of how different humans are from other animals depends a lot on how you define things. It is interesting when you have these things pointed out where you get these similarities. I am quite prepared to believe that the preliminary basis of morality can be found...

Re: Christians studying the Bible...

I have friends -- even family members -- who will not set foot in a church for any reason. How strange! I have never heard of that, and I know lots of atheists. Why wouldn't you go to a church service for a wedding or a funeral on principle? I can understand them not going to a regular service (I h...

Re: Christians studying the Bible...

"Shunning" is only a thing among Amish, Mennonites, and similar groups. The average Christian on the street has never shunned anyone. Except when asked to attend gay weddings or vote on their right to get married. Then they shun in droves. I seem to remember you being part of the drove. Search onli...

Re: An evil god?

Alas, yes. I do disagree with this pretty much across the board. The analogy is weak. A better analogy than compass would be metal detector. Ethical dilemmas such as abortion have more than one potential victim so empathy points toward each victim because that’s what empathy does. Empathy isn’t a s...
