The Happy Thread

Postby Rian » Fri May 16, 2008 1:49 pm

We have a thread for this on another forum, and it's just kinda fun to hear from the people on what makes them happy :)

I'll start off with two:

I'm happy that I'm a woman - it's SUCH fun!

I love our new Mac computer - I got so stinkin' fed up with viruses and spyware, and now Macs are completely compatible with PCs (that my husband and kids use at work and at school), so we got one a few weeks ago when our latest PC died from viruses/spyware, and I LOVE it!

and had a wonderful time with my husband last night - dinner and coffee and some good talk.

And a wonderful time with a friend this morning over coffee (actually, tea, but I generally say coffee).

And I love throwing parties - I'm throwing one for my oldest son and his friends tonight - he loves when I make my "burrito bar" :)

The spring time makes me happy. Everything around here is in bloom and bursting with energetic green growth. At least a dozen baby chicks have hatched and they are so cute following their mother hens around and chirping. I'm happy to ride my motorcycle into work and feel the spring air rushing past me.

I'm really happy that the rains have returned after a stretch of days in the 80's and 90's. I have webbed feet.

Wow, you guys have already seen 90's in Oregon? I've been riding my 750 Shadow to work lately to cut down on gas. It gets 50 - 60 mpg, depending on how fast I go. My Camery gets about 30, so I can almost double my fuel economy.

A37 - if you like rain, you're living in the right place! The 90's must be pretty awful in Oregon, though - must get muggy. Does it?

Happy - after a long day (car breaking down, etc.) just picked up some delicious tomato-basil soup from the deli. Ahhhhh!!!

I'm very sorry to hear about your car trouble. That really stinks. But tomato-basil soup... I'm with you there!

There are very few humid days in Oregon, despite the plentiful moisture. I'm not sure how that works exactly, from a meteorlogical point of view. It's pretty much paradise here, but don't tell anybody. So far we've been able to keep traffic and housing prices under control, at least compared to California and Washington. But... just try to get into an Obama political rally, and you have to wait in line for hours.

Even after months on the trail, Obama seemed slightly stunned by the size of the crowd, saying "Wow, wow, wow" as he surveyed the audience.
"We have had a lot of rallies," he said. "This is the most spectacular setting, the most spectacular crowd we have had this entire campaign."

Ahhhhh! again! de-LISH-ee-ous! Now I just need to find a deli that has good matzah-ball soup, and I'll feel better about Arizona.

That IS odd. I've been in Oregon before (Crater Lake is stunning!) and just thought that I happened to be there in the non-muggy season. That's interesting that it generally isn't muggy ... I wonder why? There's CERTAINLY lots of moisture there! And you guys didn't seem to have the mosquito problem that we hit in Washington, either ... hmmm ...

Happy - my son's geometry teacher just emailed us with good news - he got an 87 on the final!!!! That was so nice of her to grade it quickly and email the results to us - she knew that we put a LOT of work in :) Yay! :b_woot:

Thanks - that's a hard subject for him. He's a whiz at history 'n stuff like that (and I'm really pathetic) but he struggles with math. That was SO nice of his teacher to pass on that good news as soon as she had it :) We went out to dinner to celebrate!

Now what's up with nursing school for your daughter?

Happy - big honkin' thunderstorm going on :) and I don't have to be anywhere! I think I'll pop some popcorn.

and I finally bought that goofy-looking neurotic rooster from Razmataz! (along with a few rooster friends to keep him company). I'm keeping them on top of my computer desk so I can look at them when I get too serious here. :smt117

We went out on my brother-in-law's boat this weekend - tubing is stinkin' FUN! We were just laughing so hard - my husband is an especially good boat driver - he gets the tubers right at the hairy edge of a wipeout, then eases off, then gets to the edge again, and finally, after a good, long, fun run, dumps 'em! My daughter got the wipeout-of-the-day award - flew over the back of the sucker!

And the best news of all - I FINALLY found a lifevest that fits my middle son - the one with (almost) no legs (just very, very short) and very small torso that goes out a lot. All of the other vests (and I've probably tried at least 100 on) either hold him head-down in the water (NOT the thing!), or push up over his head when he's sitting in the boat, or other such things. I saw yet another vest, tried it on again with a sigh, and WOW! The thing FIT!!!!!! I was finally able to relax when he was on the tube (which he LOVES!) I need to go back to the store and buy another one.

My husband and I just closed on our first house yesterday! We're very excited, but we have a lot of work ahead of us, both before we move in and after. It's a great place though with lots of potential; it needs mostly cosmetic stuff like paint and carpet/flooring, but getting it all prepped first is a big chore!
Anyway, we will soon be discontinuing our internet service for a while so it's not constantly tempting me to get distracted, :nc: and since watching TV is my hubby's weakness, we'll be stopping our satellite service as well. Hopefully it won't be for too long since we'll both be going through major withdrawal! :smt119 :smt120

But I just wanted to let everyone know in case I suddenly disappear that I'm not ignoring you.

(and you better not talk about me while I'm gone! :smt018 )

(unless it's all good stuff of course! :smt023 )
