Bumping this thread a year later to repeat the same story: This weekend I ran my second ever half marathon, finishing in 1 hour 44 min. Out of a field of 98 runners I came 22nd, which made me the 20th male and the 6th in my category (Open Male). Sixth!

I actually did a few training runs this time, so my recovery is much better. Main casualty is my humility at this point.

Of course, KIWI, IF you wanted to greatly reduce, if not totally eliminate your SORE muscles, you could do what all types of athletes, from world class, Olympic & professional to those like me who, at age 76, only plays 2 to 4 on side, beach volleyball one day a week DO EVERY DAY.
