Anyway, at this point it's almost a 3-to-1 majority in favor of keeping the new edit time limit. I think that's good.

I would like to see a strong argument for no time limit, but the arguments so far have been weak--in my estimation.

Going just from this thread:

Keeping some kind of edit time limit:

Rian
SimplyMe
Particles
Patrick Star
Jesus Raves
Keep The Reason
ArchLich

Going back to unlimited time to edit your posts:

Clare
Moonwood

Undecided/Unclear:
Aaron

Aaron liked it the old way, but acknowledged that it only works if people cooperate, and his final post left it uncertain. He preferred not talking to people that would do the unlimited editing thing where post content was changed, not just typos/grammar corrected.

So 7 for keeping the new edit time limit, and 2 for going back.

Time limit is now 2 hours. Let's see if we can all get along.

Thanks, Emery. Sorry we had to bother you with something so petty.

Forum members should have the freedom to edit their posts indefinitely and hopefully choose to explain what and why they edited out of courtesy.

Moderators should only exercise their authority in the moderated section Civility Lounge until otherwise. To not abide by that would be in clear violation at this time.

Clare, are you making up rules for an unmoderated forum? :-)

The Civility Lounge is the only moderated section. If moderators exercise their authority outside of the CL then they are in violation.

I think maybe you missed my joke which was to play off of the line of thought that there can be no rules in an unmoderated forum, not even rules about no rules.

Didn't see this thread before. Of course, I am a third member of the going back to unlimited edit time camp.

I really don't sympathize all that much with the obsession about what someone has typed at some time. If they want to retract something and delete it then why shouldn't they? We usually quote what we are responding to anyway. The proof is in the edit time stamps -- the oldest time stamp warrants presumption that this is the original version. If you want proof of what you originally said then don't edit your post. If you want proof of what someone else said then quote it and don't edit the post quoting it.

Yes, give us some freedom to change if we want to. Who cares anyway? It adds to the drama if others do it with an agenda, but who cares in the end? Not moi, its not that important.
