It doesn't matter what the motive was, it's the choosing of Blasphemy that is interesting. Why that charge? What was so special about that particular charge?

A reason for a heart filled with hatred to kill him or have him killed.

But why CHOOSE the charge of BLASPHEMY? Think about that, people are motivated by hate all the time. But charging someone with capital punishment by way of blasphemy doesn't make sense unless...they said or did something that could be perceived as blasphemy...

So did Jesus say or do something that could be seen as blasphemy?

He was telling them--he was the one sent forth by God--they refused to accept that fact because in their confusion, believed the Messiah would come as a mighty king on the spot and destroy the Romans. They were wrong. A lowly carpenters son showed up and tried to tell the scholars of the day--they had many error teachings in place. A lack of love for the most part--turned to anger and hatred. Same way Catholicism would burn members alive for heresy if they didn't agree or taught something contrary to what the clergy believed. Or tried to translate the bible into the language of the day so that men could read it for themselves.= far removed from God.

So they looked at all the Jewish laws and picked Blasphemy as a charge because they didn't accept His messianic claim?

They refused to accept the fact a lowly carpenters son was their Messiah---Did you read what Jesus told them at Matthew 23?

It carried the death penalty--they tried to kill him a few times before that--they hated him so much they wanted him dead--their hate was so strong--- fact--they never broke Gods laws--yet the night Jesus was arrested, the Pharisees and Sanhedrin tried Jesus that night--Gods law was 7 days to build a defense--they denied Jesus that right--from hatred. Its obvious--they no longer had Gods grace--Matt 23 assured that.

I have indeed, read this many times.

Matthew 23 wrote:Then said Jesus to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; 3 so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice. 4 They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, 7 and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. 9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ. 11 He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; 12 whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in. 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

So this is what we can expect when people appoint themselves spokesmen of God, mediators between God and men, the gatekeepers of heaven, or Jesus' teachers. The result is that these blind guides shut the kingdom of God against men and make their disciples twice the child of hell as themselves. People have pretended to the authority of God since Adam and Eve, wanting to be looked up to, without actually learning real wisdom in a relationship with God. They deceive people with the ludicrous idea that God cannot speak for Himself but must speak through them -- and they can only do this because they don't really believe in God themselves no matter how much they say they do.

Jesus' answer to this deception is to say we should call no man teacher, father or master, for we have ONE father in heave, and one master who is Christ. "There is only ONE mediator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus." (1 Tim 2:5) Our part is to be bretheren and if we would be great then we would serve one another rather than seek any kind of authority to lord it over others.

99% of the teachers are false---Jesus promised he would have his real teachers on earth during these last days--the faithful and discreet slave. And if he found them doing what they should be doing--he would appoint them over all of his belongings--so this rings true today--Luke 10:16.
Jesus taught to call no man--FATHER--in a spiritual sense.( as a teacher)

At the end of Matt 23--Jesus tells them--their house is abandoned to them( cut off as Gods chosen) until they bless Jesus( accept him as the Messiah--its been over 1900 years--they will not.
