Belief and Non-belief in the Professions

Postby Richard_C » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:50 pm

I remember reading somewhere the professions where believers in God would most commonly be found were the military, athletics and business. Non-believers would most commonly be found in journalism, law and maybe politics. I find that last suggestion especially hard to believe.

I don't even remember where to find my "source," which I probably misunderstood or am incorrectly remembering. So I'm not putting this claim out there as anything reliable or any sort of expert claim. I'm just very intrigued by this claim and would like to know if anyone else has heard it.

I think I understand your problem and there is an easy explanation. The comparison is probably by percentage. And the facts are that a much higher percentage of nonbelievers would have to go into politics in order for them to get adequate representation of their viewpoint. So even with a much smaller percentage of believers going in to politics they can still overwhelm the non-believers

Yes the source of your data is crucial, my explanation only works if it is done in a place where the believers are the majority. To check if my explanation works we can compare this to a similar study in a place where the unbelievers are not a minority.

Eureka! I have tracked down my source, which is really just opinion. I thought it was from someone who had researched George Washington. I don't suppose this person had much credentials to talk about "tests" of religious people, whatever he meant by that.
