The Amazing Meeting 8

Postby crazylegsmurphy » Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:55 pm

I am wondering who is going to TAM 8 this year?

I will be there (if I can get tickets) to check out the awesomeness and promote the comic. It would be awesome to meet some of you. For those of you who don't know what TAM is, check out the page from last year.

I want to go, but with R/T airfare ~$400, hotel ~$100/night, plus meals, etc., it will cost at least $1000.

I would definitely plan on attending TAM if I hadn't set my sights on two trips to Europe this year. So unless something changes in the next couple of months, Vegas in July will push my budget too near to the edge.

I'd love to go to TAM, but won't know if I can until probably June.
Is it likely that would be too late to get tickets?

OTOH, Las Vegas absolutely creeps me out for a whole lot of reasons, and July would not be my favorite time to be there, either.
But I sure admire James Randi and would gladly endure the place to see and maybe meet him and to attend the meeting.
Randi was quite ill for a while, I understand. Is he doing better now?

The latest word I've heard is that he has finished his chemotherapy and is on the mend from that marathon.

His prognosis and the present condition isn't well known. An article last August put his 5-year-survival chances at 50-50.

But he's 81 years old, so already he's outrun death better than most of the men born in 1928. And not only is he planning on attending TAM in Las Vegas, but also TAM Australia in Sydney in November.

Thanks, NHB.
I didn't know Randi was 81.
May he make magic to 101!

I really hope you guys can make it.

I do think the price is a bit high and I wish they would make it a little more accessible. I have been to quite a few comic conventions and never payed more than $35/day for the bigger ones. I'm not saying that some of the speakers are not famous in their own right, but without meaning any offense, not many of them are as awesome as seeing Luke Skywalker or Captain Picard!

I hope you guys can come. It might be one of the last times to see James Randi, plus I'll be there...and that's really all you should really need as incentive! :D

Now that James Randi has come out, I can't help but a feel skosh more affinity for him and the entire organization. Perhaps I'll rework my plans and budget to attend TAM, but that will have to wait until after my upcoming vacation.
