search engine question

Postby Rian » Fri Jul 01, 2011 12:22 am

I'm trying to find a way to search for a combination of two or more words, like "Alexander the Great", so I don't have to wade thru tons of searches with "great", but I can't find out how to do it in the advanced search options. There are plenty of "or" options, and I tried the usual "and" options, like using

Alexander & Great

"Alexander the Great"

but can't seem to make it work. Any ideas?

In the advanced search, there is one box for "all these words", and another for "this exact wording or phrase". The latter is the one you want; it's equivalent to putting the query in quotes.

I don't have that, Pseudo. I have:

O Search for all terms or use query as entered
O Search for any terms

and neither one works for what I want.

And the first box is for words, with the radio buttons I showed, and the second box is for author.

Rian,

Use Google as your search engine. Then you'll have the advanced search options Pseudonym is talking about.

I'm sorry, but I don't know how to do that inside this forum - how do you do that? I'm just using the one the forum supplies.

Oh... my mistake, yes.

You could use Google, and do a query like this:

site:achristianandanatheist.com "Alexander the Great"

How does that work for you?

Rian, you might want to check out the support forum for this board, which is powered by phpBB. Click on the phpBB link at the bottom of this board, and it will take you to their site. There you can search the forum to see if anyone else has had this issue, or ask a question yourself.
