CUT: Slicing Through the Myth of Circumcision

Postby Keep The Reason » Wed Oct 19, 2011 4:08 pm

I consider circumcision to be child abuse, mutilation, and non-consensual by definition, and unnecessary surgery performed based on unsupported religious dogma and superstition.

And, there is a new documentary out about it called

CUT: Slicing Through the Myth of Circumcision

The link leads to an abridged version of the film but is still about an hour and 3 minutes in duration.

Of particular note is the moil at 45 minutes who admits that, in service to his religious beliefs, he engages in abuse. Swiftly following thereafter is the actual procedure, so take that as a warning.

Here's the short version: Circumcision provides no health benefits. It is not necessary. It kills nerves used for sexual pleasure and leaves a lesion around the penis. The idea that it's "aesthetically pleasing" is based purely on bias that should not override the rights of newborns not to have their bodies mutilated because of *our* prejudices. You don't lop off a toe from a non-consenting human being because you think it "looks better that way".

For the record, I did not allow my child to undergo this barbaric unnecessary and ridiculous surgery.

Considering that it is not a requirement for Christianity, im not sure why it is still done. I would imagine it got started like any other fad does but this stuck. However, it is not child abuse. If you want child abuse look at abortion.

I very much doubt that children are performing or assisting in abortions against their will, mikedsjr.

History of Circumcision in the USA

However, it is not child abuse.

So, can I ethically chop off the pinky toe of an infant if I wanted to do so? Why not?

If you want child abuse look at abortion.

A life that is never lived (like the countless spontaneous miscarriages that god allows to happen with unrelenting repetition) is merely a life unlived, unrealized, and with no discernible impact. However, a lived mutilated is a completely different matter.
