Music needed for the show

Postby Emery » Thu Jul 05, 2012 12:50 pm

Alright, I'm back. Sort of. One bathroom left to remodel, a garage that I still can't fit a beer fridge into, a tile backsplash to stick to the kitchen wall, and babies that can now crawl all over the house. Other than 43 other pending house projects, I'm close to being done. Oh for the good old days of apartment life....

I've been looking at YouTube's terms of service, and to post a show longer than 15 min., I have to have an account in good standing. Which means no copyrighted music, which *sigh* sadly means no Stryper. We do have Stryper's permission to use a live cut of "Calling on You," but I don't want to risk YouTube not recognizing that and cutting our time.

So, I'm moving the debut of AC&A 2.0 back a month, ETA is now end of July. But, I need bumper music. I know some of you have wicked music skills, especially Joey, so if you're inclined to record something that we could use on the show, please email me a sound file. We would thank you profusely (even more profusely than we did Stryper), and you will go down in AC&A lore. I can use intro and exit music, as well as music for a possible mid-show break.

Thanks for your patience guys, I look forward to being back on the internets soon.

Congrats on the house! (I'm involved in much the same).

As to music, I don't have the skills personally but as always, am willing to assist as I can.

Can't you let YouTube know this upfront?

Possible, KTR. But, the live cut is not as clean for bumper music, and I'm not sure how official our permission is. What I have is an email from several years ago from the concert promotion company, and there may be a new company involved now. I just think it would be cleaner to use original music, and very cool to feature the talents of our gifted listening audience.

I'm gonna tell Jason to submit. He's got music skills.

Try The Thinking Atheist podcast for a compelling approach. H uses a mix of things, sound bytes, etc. fair use level too. Just a thought.

Hehe! Once they start crawling, it's all over!!!! :D and the house projects will NEVER END ..... :o (but it's worth it)

anyway, I think it would be really cool to use music from our in-house artists!

Pity you can't use Richard Thompson's Dimming of the Day. It begins

I have a ton of original music already on the internet that you're more than welcome to use, but it's all demos and it's jazz.

Can I have a listen? I sort of grew up with Jazz as my father was a big trad fan and in the time honoured tradition did not like my parents music. Then I realised many years later after getting into Bob Dylan that my dad's music had been a big influence on him. The realisation dawned when someone pointed out that Dylan stole the tune for Blind Willie McTell from Louis Armstrong's version of St. James Infirmary and that lead to me buying my dad all the hot fives and sevens recordings on CD. I know you're a modern Jazz guy, and believe me my dad wouldn't even admit modern Jazz was Jazz - you may not know this but there was a British trad Jazz revival in the fifties a few years before the British R and B revival that eventually lead to the Beatles and the Stones and the American's rediscovering their own musical heritage via the Brits which lead to my man Dylan bringing it all back home. So my dad kind of got into these British Jazz bands as well as his American heroes like Louis and Kid Ory and King Oliver. And now I find my kids getting into music that was influenced by the stuff I was into as a teenager so my daughter is into Amanda Palmer who does a cover of a song by Marc Bolan who stole riffs from Chuck Berry and Howlin Wolf and so what goes around comes around. Did you ever listen to any of Dylan's theme time radio slots?

Don't forget the can I listen?

Oh and Jazz - there's a lot of interplay of Christian and humanist themes in the history of Jazz.

Emery, have you received anything yet? is it still open for submissions?

Emery, I think you might take a listen to humanguy's stuff. You might find something usable.

Please don't imitate NPR, please, that's all I ask. Too bad you probably can't afford the Japandroids. Their Celebration Rock album kicks ass!
